| Whereas as month ago, my spam was comming from NFL player, now it appears to be the nursing home: Helena Cormier, Louie Johnston, Thaddeus Mann, Ethel S. Milton, Bernie Lynn. posted Thursday, November 27, 2003 Review:Dukes of Hamburg Some Folks Gearhead, 2003 There's a dozen layers of joking going on here- matching Joey Ramone wigs, fake German packaging (and German businessman glasses), birth dates to make this look like a genuine 60s artifact, a song called "Woman" which I somehow doubt is by Cole Porter (...make you feel aw-right!), and folk-rock-fad cash-ins (Greensleeves, Old MacDonald). This is early Stones-Yardbirds R&B Garage rock. All strong, and produced to sound absolutely Nuggets-authentic. They even find another way to make Hey Joe work- fast like Love's version, but with a neato jangle. Gearhead records is getting to be a real trademark of quality when it comes to garage punk. posted Tuesday, November 25, 2003 |
